June is a travel month to me. Just came back from vacation for 6 days, I took a group of 32 people to Moganshan with me. Shanghai Expat organizes a short trip out of the city for the expat members once a year. This year, we went to hike and bike in a peaceful bamboo forest with our long-term partner, Ok Deal Club.
Moganshan is 4 hours away from Shanghai which is a very good option for a weekend getaway from stress and pollution. The itinerary was arranged at a slow pace. After we had lunch at the guest house, we headed to the mountain for a green adventure. Group members were free to choose hiking or swimming at the natural reservoir. Surprisingly, all of them agreed to walk and sweat a little. The weather was not perfect but we were lucky enough to have the afternoon without rain. The hiking trail was rugged and very slippery. It was not easy for non-professional hikers like us, especially for kids. The trail got steeper and steeper while we continued moving, some people gave up and decided to go for a swim. I kept moving up with the rest of group until we had to stop because the trail faded away somehow. Now it came the most dangerous part – to walk down. I had an epic fail with my bum hit on the damn rock. Thank you to my new friend Mauri who saved me and helped me to walk down for the rest of the trial.
It was a beautiful view at the lake with green clear water surrounded by bamboo. Some of us took a dip to the water but most of us sat by the lake and enjoyed the view because the water is too deep and cold to swim.
After we all cleaned up and took a rest, it was time to get the party started! Homemade burger, lamb skewer, sausage, snacks and drinks were prepared for our expat members. Thank you so much to my fellow tour leaders from Ok Deal Club to cook for us and Stella Artois to sponsor us beer. We also made a bonfire to grill marshmallow later by night. Don’t you dare to think we were done there. How could we stop the fun when there was a bar in the deep forest?! Of course we moved the party there! And of course we also made it difficult to wake up the next day.
The next morning, half of the group went for cycling and I took the other half to hike to the bamboo forest with an easier route. After lunch, we left the peaceful mountain and headed back to Shanghai.
It was an amazing weekend to be in the nature and I had a great time leading a tour with the awesome people who became my new friends. We are still sharing photos in WeChat group and making jokes of each other.
